Horizon Permeability
Advanced cross-flow analysis to measure multi-component
permeation through thin-films and membranes
The MPA Horizon permeameter (SMS) represents a groundbreaking advancement in membrane science. Its key innovation lies in a fully instrumented permeation cell capable of operating in controlled and dynamic environments. The device can simultaneously monitor various permanent gases (O₂, CO₂, N₂, He, etc.) and vapors (H₂O, organic vapors) on both the upstream and downstream sides of the membrane. This capability enables direct observation of coupled mass transport phenomena and cross-flow in dense and micro- or nanoporous membranes. Gaining deeper insights into these mechanisms will drive innovation in critical areas of sustainable materials, including fuel cells, CO₂ storage, biocomposites, and next-generation packaging materials. The project unites experts in membrane science and transport phenomena modeling from Île-de-France, each specializing in different application fields. This collaborative effort will foster interdisciplinary perspectives on mass transport challenges, sparking innovative ideas to address the shared goal of developing sustainable materials to mitigate environmental impact.
