Bora Minerals
PCC biosourcé par électrodialyse marine, une révolution pour la chimie verte qui valorise le CO2 marin
Calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) is a strategic industrial material, with annual global production of 170 million tonnes, of which 20% is in refined form (PCC, or precipitated calcium carbonate). This compound is essential to a wide range of industries, including cosmetics, glass, plastics, and paper. Today, it is produced through a calcination process at 1,000°C that is extremely energy-intensive and generates significant CO₂ emissions, comparable to those of the cement industry.
Bora Minerals is developing a disruptive alternative: an electrochemical process that enables the production of bio-based, low-carbon, and cost-competitive PCC by harnessing the CO₂ naturally dissolved in seawater. This innovative approach addresses a dual challenge: decarbonizing PCC production while helping combat ocean acidification, thereby offering an environmentally beneficial solution for both industry and the planet.
