Academic Head of the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department & Researcher at the Navier Laboratory – ENCP

Function description

This position has two functions:

Working time will be divided between these two functions, with two locations: an office at the Teaching Department, and an office at the Navier Laboratory. Dedicated research resources may be put in place, such as privileged access to ENPC doctoral grants, for example.

A) Academic head of the GMM department

Reporting to the person in charge of the engineering cycle, the incumbent is responsible for implementing the department’s projects and educational policy, in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the department chairman. In general, he/she participates in the policy of the Teaching and Research Department.

His/her main tasks within the department are as follows:

  • Participating in the management of teaching activities and the range of courses on offer
  • Monitoring students’ schooling
  • Participate in communication activities
  • Develop and maintain partnerships, in particular with the schools of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.
  • Ensure administrative and financial follow-up

The Academic Manager participates in certain School bodies (teaching and research council, student recruitment panel, etc.). He/she takes part in the strategic reflections currently being conducted at the School.
As part of his/her activities, the Academic Manager ensures coordination between teaching and the School’s laboratories.

B) Researcher at the Navier Laboratory

The candidate for the post will prepare a research project in line with the laboratory’s strategic plan and structured over a period of 3 to 6 years, which will be presented to a jury during the recruitment process as a researcher at the Navier Laboratory. In the spirit of the Junior Professorships set up by the LPR 2020, this period will enable the candidate to develop an ambitious research project within the host laboratory, which will be evaluated before the post becomes permanent. The candidate will be expected to develop academic recognition at the highest international level and scientific independence to enable him or her to become a full member of the Chargés de Recherche or Directeurs de Recherche corps within the first 6 years, depending on his or her experience and whether or not he or she has been awarded a habilitation to direct research.

Profile

  • Category A post (Executive). Public servant or contract employee (3-year fixed-term contract renewable 1 time or convertible into a permanent contract) in a process similar to that of the Junior Professorships set up by the LPR 2020, with the possibility of secondment.
  • Holds a PhD in mechanics, mechanical engineering, civil engineering (Section 60 of the CNU), applied mathematics (Section 26 of the CNU) or materials science (Section 28 of the CNU), with or without post-doctoral experience.
  • Interpersonal skills: contact, negotiation, cross-disciplinary leadership.
  • Organisational skills, management, creativity, dynamism, autonomy and initiative.
  • Fluency in English essential.
  • Salary in accordance with the Staff Regulations or profile.
