ESPCI Paris – PSL (École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de la Ville de Paris) is a general engineering school which, since 1882, has been training engineers to be innovators, adaptable and creative, with a solid theoretical and experimental background and an awareness of the challenges facing society.

It is part of an internationally recognised research centre in physics, chemistry and biology (500 publications per year). It is renowned for its ability to transform the knowledge generated by fundamental research into ground-breaking innovations (2 patents per month, 3 start-ups per year).

It has won 6 Nobel Prizes and is home to 400 engineering students, 530 researchers (including 250 PhD students and 100 post-docs) in 10 joint research units and around 100 research and teaching support staff.

The ‘MaTerRE’ Major Area of Interest (DIM) is a 5-year project led by the ESPCI and financed by the IDF region over the period 2022-2026. DIM MaTerRE brings together nearly 500 researchers from more than 60 institutions and companies in the region to carry out scientific, promotion, training and communication activities on the theme of eco-responsible materials, sustainable development and the energy transition. The project is managed by an executive board, a scientific steering committee and a development committee.

Position reporting

The position is part of the Research Support Department (DAR) , within the DIM MaTerRE sub-cluster, comprising the Executive Director, who is responsible for steering and communicating the DIM MaTerRE, and an administrative and financial officer. The sub-cluster works closely with the project’s scientific coordinator (Christian Serre).

Internal relations: ESPCI central services, DIM MaTerRE committees, DIM MaTerRE administrative manager.

External relations: researchers who are members of the DIM MaTerRE, partner institutions (Ile de France region, other Major Areas of Interest, associations, etc.), external service providers, etc.

Missions and responsibilities

As a key player in raising MaTerRE’s profile among its various target audiences, the communications officer will support the development of communications initiatives and help to promote the project and research into eco-responsible materials.

  • Helping to develop the communications and partnerships strategy in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Developing creative concepts and communication materials (leaflets, flyers, posters, games) in conjunction with network members and as required.
  • Create and adapt a variety of content (articles, videos, mini-teasers, photos) to feed the social networks and the DIM MaTerRE website,
  • Write and manage the monthly newsletter
  • Help organise scientific events (meetings, workshops, training courses)
  • Contribute to the design of media (games, comics, videos, photos, etc.) and the organisation of events for the general public on eco-responsible materials and the issues surrounding them. In particular, the communications officer will be responsible for defining and carrying out a large-scale dissemination project for the end of the DIM MaTerRE label.
  • Monitoring external service providers and partners in conjunction with the team.
  • Supporting the network’s researchers in their events and/or mediation projects.
  • Occasionally, support may be requested for the communication (website, social networks) of the IMAP, Institut des Matériaux Poreux de Paris, the ESPCI laboratory that is supporting the MaTerRE DIM.

Profile

Knowledge and qualities required:
You are rigorous, motivated, dynamic and proactive. You are autonomous and have a curiosity for science in general or are simply ready to enter a different world. Knowledge of the higher education and research environment is a plus.

Knowledge of :
Event organisation – Web and multimedia skills – Writing skills and ability to find information – B2 level English (spoken and written)

Diploma and professional experience :
Education required: minimum of 3 years’ higher education in communications, ideally 5 years. Initial experience is desirable.

  • 25 days‘ annual leave + 2 days’ fractional leave (if conditions are met) + 15 days‘ RTT (i.e. 41 days’ leave over the year)
