Funding – Humanities and Social Sciences Research Chairs 2026

The IDF Region supports research projects in the social sciences and humanities that examine changes in our society, analyze issues specific to the Île-de-France region, and have a direct and lasting impact on the region and its stakeholders.

Beneficiaries must be tenured researchers, research fellows, or associate professors (maximum 7 years after completing their thesis*) who wish to carry out their project over a maximum period of 3 years at a research or higher education institution in Île-de-France.

The grant amounts to a maximum of €150,000 to cover operating expenses, such as:

  • Expenses related to the salaries of associated scientific staff (doctoral students, post-doctoral students, interns, etc.), release from teaching duties for the chair holder and/or associated scientific staff,
  • Expenses related to research work and associated costs, including, for example: participation in conferences, publication, translation, dissemination, communication.

The following are not eligible: management fees, investment expenses (including the purchase of equipment costing more than €500).

Procedures

  • Candidate projects are selected by institutions in the Paris region responsible for site coordination (university consortia and regional coordination agreements).
  • The projects selected by the groups (two to four applications per institution coordinating the site) are then submitted by the institution leading the project (employer) on the Île-de-France Region’s regional aid platform, mesdemarches.iledefrance.fr.
  • The applications are evaluated by external evaluators and a multidisciplinary selection committee.
  • The selected projects are proposed to the regional executive and submitted to a vote by elected officials at the Île-de-France Region Standing Committee.
  • After deliberation by the Standing Committee validating regional support, an agreement establishing the conditions for awarding the regional grant will be signed between the beneficiary institution and the Region.
