Incorporation de polyols recyclés issus de mousses polyuréthanes flexibles dans des formulations industrielles

This project aims to develop an innovative chemical recycling solution for flexible foams used in mattresses, cushions, and seating. Today, nearly 10 million tonnes of this type of plastic waste are generated annually in France, with no dedicated recycling infrastructure. Most of this waste is incinerated or sent to landfill, resulting in a considerable environmental impact.

In this context, chemical recycling offers a promising solution for reducing the environmental footprint of these materials. The approach developed in this project relies on the depolymerization of polyurethanes to convert them into their basic building blocks. At the end of the reaction, two monomers are recovered and separated to obtain high-purity compounds.

These monomers can then be reused to synthesize new polyurethanes, thereby supporting a circular economy. One of the monomers, in particular, shows significant potential for direct reintegration into existing polyurethane manufacturing processes at high incorporation rates, without compromising the performance or properties of the final material.
