The GDR IAMAT is organising a workshop on Data exploitation in materials science: big data vs small data from 19 to 21 January 2026 in Châtillon.

The workshop is organised around three main themes, although contributions on other topics are of course welcome:

  • Knowledge abstraction (data annotation, metadata, ontology; FAIR principles; knowledge representations; data extraction)
  • Big Data (deep learning, metamodelling/surrogates; model reduction, dimensionality reduction, variable selection; computer vision, object detection, segmentation)
  • Small Data (explainable AI, symbolic AI, knowledge fusion; transfer learning, reinforcement learning; synthetic data; generalisation validation, robustness validation)

Guest presentations will open the various themes:

  • Konrad Hinsen (SOLEIL)
  • Pierre Kerfriden (Centre des Matériaux)
  • Jean-Luc Parouty (SIMaP)

Beyond these themes, all oral contributions on statistical learning applied to experimental or simulated data are welcome, whether they focus on data preparation, model construction, validation or use. It is also possible to present a poster.

Registration and contributions

  • Registration (in person): before 15/12/2025
  • Registration (remote): before 07/01/2026
