LOOP-MOF

Life-cycle Oriented Operando electrokinetic Profiling of MOFs

The LOOP-MOF project aims to develop innovative characterization strategies to provide a new profiling of colloidal MOF nanoparticles in solution, for applications in the fields of materials science and environment. The project involves developing a new approach based on electrokinetic separation methods and coupled detection modalities, in capillary and microfluidic chip formats, whose potential for application to the characterization of MOF nanoparticles has never been described in the literature before. This approach will enable the IdF community to meet the challenges associated with the in situ and operando analysis of these emerging materials at different stages of their life cycle, from synthesis to recycling. The project is therefore based on the development of electrokinetic methodologies in capillary that enable the direct characterization of nano-MOF physicochemical properties in solution, the evaluation of their colloidal and chemical stability and the study of their interactions with small organic molecules for decontamination purposes. The combination of these separation methods with advanced multi-modal detection techniques (electrochemistry, Raman spectroscopy) in microfluidic systems will finally open new prospects for a better understanding of both self-assembly and recyclability of nano-MOFs, thereby accelerating the discovery of new eco-friendly functional nanomaterials with high application potential.
