EMP26 – International Energy Conference & LESS school
Event Information
With the support of DIM MaTerRE, the Institute of Light Sciences at Paris-Saclay University is hosting the 12th International Conference on Energy, Materials and Photonics (EMP26) from 21 to 24 April 2026 in Building 503 in Orsay. Prior to the EMP26 conference, a three-half-day thematic school (Light, Energy & Sustainability School, LESS) will be organised for Master’s students, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, starting on 20 April 2026.
International Conference on Energy, Materials, and Photonics – EMP26 (21-24 April)
Registration fees must be paid by 10 March 2026. Participation is by invitation or university sponsorship. Forms and requests for official letters of participation must be sent by 16 February 2026. Registration and program.
Context: In the context of the energy crisis, sustainable technologies are essential. Research in the fields of optical data processing, photonic materials control, and light energy management is paramount.
A high-level academic event, the EMP26 conference will welcome between 70 and 120 invited experts and researchers in engineering, chemistry and physics from academia and industry, who will present scientific papers and discuss the latest research results and advances in the field of new materials for the collection, management, exploitation and storage of light energy by optoelectronic and photonic systems. A few introductory presentations at each thematic session will provide an overview of the state of the art in the subject. Doctoral and post-doctoral students will be encouraged to participate through reduced registration fees and will be invited to present papers or posters.
The conference will cover various topics related to the following keywords (non-exhaustive list):
Metamaterials, functional materials and devices, nano-/low-dimensional materials and devices, light conversion and harvesting, photovoltaics, perovskites, light detection, optoelectronics, organic optics, plasmonics, photothermal, photochromism, photocatalysis, life cycle, sustainability.
To facilitate interaction and exchange between participants, different thematic sessions will be organised alternately in a single room (no simultaneous parallel sessions).
Indicative list of sessions:
- New materials for photovoltaics and photodetectors
- Life cycle and sustainability of materials
- Nanomaterials for high-speed and low-consumption photonics
- Lighting and display devices
- Light harvesting and applications (photothermal, photocatalysis, chemical energy,…) • Material characterization techniques.
Light, Energy & Sustainability School (LESS, 20-21 April)
Applications must be submitted by 6 March 2026. Registrations must be confirmed between 10 and 27 March 2026. Registration and program.
A three-half-day thematic school (20-21 April) will precede the conference for students (Master’s 2, PhD) and post-doctoral researchers, at no additional cost, in order to introduce the basic scientific concepts inherent in the latest advances and to situate them in the socio-economic context and its challenges. It will also be open to doctoral students and Master’s interns from Paris-Saclay University.
